We can now announce that we look forward to marking The Queen’s unprecedented Platinum Jubilee in 2022, striking coins for our monarch and our country just as we have for more than a thousand years. In 2002, we struck coins for The Queen’s Golden Jubilee as the United Kingdom revelled once more and there can be no forgetting the sights and sounds of 2012 – the year of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which saw the public paint the town red, white and blue throughout the summer. ![]() The coin was the prime memento of the occasion and came to symbolise the national mood of celebration and togetherness, the street parties and bunting, and the time spent with family and friends. In 1977, The Royal Mint marked Her Majesty The Queen’s Silver Jubilee with a coin that found its way into countless memory boxes. A commemorative Platinum Jubilee portrait features as a unique obverse on the coin, specially created for this unique moment. ![]() ![]() The celebrations will begin with the FIRST UK 50p coin issued by The Royal Mint to mark a royal event. On 6 February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee.
